5 Best Seaside Campsites in Yorkshire

5 Best Seaside Campsites in Yorkshire

If, like some of us, you haven't booked your summer holidays yet, and are starting to panic. DO NOT FEAR ??? There is still time to snap up a pitch at a top seaside campsite.

There is no better way to shed off the woes of daily life than to spend time outdoors pottering about with a campfire and a Kelly Kettle. With any luck, the kids will make some great friends too, leaving plenty of time for you to relax with a book and a cuppa.

So with that in mind, here are our top 5 Yorkshire campsites all within spitting distance of the beach (and some tasty Whitby Scampi, of course ?)

Hooks House Farm - Robin Hoods Bay

Hooks House Farm a small family run campsite, with panoramic sea views, is situated half a mile from Robin Hood's Bay. Within easy walking distance of the shops and pubs, there is a lovely cinder track along which you can cycle to Whitby, only 5 miles away.

Robin Hoods Bay is a stunning seaside village, despite the very steep hills. Spend a day walking down to the beach (check Tide Times first!), stopping at the Fish Box for your Scampi (or Traditional Fish and Chips - if you must) dinner along the way. Do fortify yourself at one of the many pubs at the bottom, before attempting the walk back to the top though. It's a big one.

Limited number of caravan, motor-home and electric hook-ups available so best book those well in advance.

Serenity Camping - Hinderwell

A calm and welcoming campsite, where tranquillity is rules supreme, Serenity Camping is a little gem just North of Whitby and about a mile from the sandy beaches at Runswick Bay. The site is conveniently located in the picturesque village of Hinderwell, with access to a post office, a fish and chip shop (for those scampi cravings of course) and 2 great locals.

Staithes, a chocolate box, fishing village and home of Old Jack's Boat lies just North, where I'd highly recommend afternoon tea at Dotty's of the campsite and Whitby, is in easy reach via the local bus service or by car.

The campsite is pet friendly and dogs are very welcome, and boasts limited touring pitches and 6 pitches with electric hook-up for tents. The site is fully accessible with a recent addition of disabled and family washroom and has a popular Wi-Fi and information cabin full of maps, magazines and leaflets to help plan your day out.

Families with smaller children may want to read their Peaceful Camping Policy before setting off or booking.

Crows nest - Filey

A larger caravanning and camping site, with a wide range of facilities, including a large children's play area and swimming pool, this camp site is ideal if you are looking to experience the joy of a traditional seaside holiday.

The level, grassy field with tent pitches and some hard touring pitches is located at one end of the park, separate from the caravans and overlooks the gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay. Affording stunning views every morning.

The five mile stretch of golden sandy beach at Filey is only a stone's throw away too, and there is an onsite Chippie to fill the gap after a hard day on the beach building castles in the sand.

Pricing is very competitive too at £20/night for a grass pitch in the summer holidays!

Wold Farm - Flamborough Head

A peaceful camping and glamping site situated on the edge of the cliffs at Flamborough, this small and sernene site, offers a real retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A five minute stroll along a private footpath to the RSPB Bempton Cliff for a view of the famous Puffins, and breathtaking, panoramic seaviews can be had from all the pitches.

Within easy reach of the beaches at Flamborough, Bridlington and Filey you will be spoilt for choice in sunny days, and despite the seemingly remote location, there are 13 pubs within a mile and a half's walk!

Sewerby Hall and Gardens, winner of Britain's Best Picnic spot, 2 years running, is only 3 miles away and presents a varietyof diversions, including a small zoo, and visits to the house where children can dress up as Edwardians and play with vintage toys in the nursery.

Pitches are reasonably priced at £14/night in the summer (with a £4/night supplement for electric hook-up) and for those who would prefer to do without the hassle of lugging a tent about, glamping pods are available for £40/night.
