History
Whitby Seafoods Ltd was founded by Graham Whittle in 1985 when he bought the assets of the Whitby Shellfish Company based at Larpool Lane in Whitby. The Whitby Shellfish Company had been founded in 1963 and was a pioneer of the breaded scampi industry in the UK. In 1996, Whitby Seafoods relocated to the edge of the North Yorkshire fishing town, and nowadays the business operates from a 40,000 sq ft factory on a 6 acre site. In 2006 Whitby Seafoods completed a £3million investment plan to increase capacity to 3000 tonnes. Whitby Seafoods acquired the entire share capital of W Middleton and Son (NI) Limited from Jim Middleton and Jack Cowden in 2007. The Middleton factory in Kilkeel has continued to be run under the expertise of Jack Cowden who has also joined the Board of Whitby Seafoods.
