We’re a buccaneering, privately owned, family business with almost 30 years’ experience, and we’re based in Whitby – a real place with a rich history as a fishing port. We also have a processing site in Kilkeel in Northern Ireland. We employ over 350 people across these two sites and produce around 8000 tonnes of seafood.

As a company we are obsessed with top-notch seafood and are the market leaders in quality. We are the beacon brand for scampi and are the UK’s largest buyer and processor of scampi. Simply put we sell more scampi than anyone else anywhere else and we are proud to sell our scampi under the Whitby brand.

We are brand builders, with a strong character, provenance and market leading quality. Since we started the business in 1985 we’ve become the no.1 brand in food service and have our Whitby branded retail range in all the major retailers. We sell 60% of our products to the restaurant trade and 40% to retailers.

We have won quite a few Great taste awards for our products and our flagship product Whitby Scampi is a famous dish in pubs and restaurants and family dining tables throughout the land.

  • Shift Engineer

    We are looking for an electrically biased, multi – skilled Shift Engineer to join our Engineering team.


    Key Responsibilities:


    • This role predominantly consists of electrical duties including fault finding and installation work up to 3-phase 415V but requires a broad range of other maintenance experience and abilities.
    • We are therefore looking for an individual who is capable of prioritising a busy workload, balancing planned maintenance, project work and installations with unplanned events such as breakdowns, etc.


    The Person:




    • Electrically apprentice trained or qualifications to this effect.
    • At least one year’s experience post qualification including working with 3-phase distribution and/or machinery.
    • Evidence of experience in other relevant engineering disciplines e.g. mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic.
    • Lives within 35 miles of the site.




    • Experience of working in a food manufacturing environment,
    • 17th Edition wiring regulations
    • Evidence of professional development and skills development

  • National Account Manager

    We are family owned and run making us a strongly entrepreneurial business and we are looking for a National Account Manager – Retail, to join our team.

    The role will be to work within the Retail team managing and growing the existing customer base comprising of major retailers, whilst identifying and opening up new business opportunities in the frozen and chilled seafood sectors.

    The role is based from the Whitby office with an expectation that you would spend some time every week in the office aligning yourself to the wider team strategy. The remainder of the week will be spent visiting customers. Home working may be available, depending on location.

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience in selling to and managing FMCG retailer relationships including the major multiples, excellent communication skills and attention to detail. An experience of working with a major food brand would be desirable.

  • Systems and Compliance Manager

    Key elements of role

    • Responsible for Quality staff at Whitby Seafoods. Lead, motivate and inspire direct reports in line with customer and business values ensuring PDP process is in place and up to date
    • Understand and apply relevant standards e.g. microbiology, nutritional, so that Customer, Whitby Seafoods and legal requirements are maintained and achieved
    • Drive the internal audit program to comply with all external standards, ensuring that routines are in place, training needs are identified and actioned, and a culture of continuous improvement is embedded into the business
    • Maintain and develop the Quality Management System so that it is fit for purpose for current customers and agile to accommodate future customers
    • Assist, from technical standpoint, the NPD, Process and Operations teams. Provide specification and artwork check support
    • Support completion of customer specifications, artwork checks and other ad hoc customer requests as required
    • Support all supplier and customer audits / visits including co-ordination & communication of non-conformances and actions
    • Support the evaluation of risks prior to the introduction of new processes, product or raw material. Ensure the risks and suitable controls are represented in the site HACCP, allergen risk assessment and TACCP such that a system of inspection and testing in place
    • Act as deputy to Head of Technical
    • Support delivery of Technical owned KPIs and trackers including appropriate communication to other teams to drive continuous improvement.
    • Support delivery of site training requirements



    • Requirement to rapidly ‘get up to speed’ with current systems including review of their suitability ahead of upcoming audits
    • Getting QMS ready for Issue 8 BRC
    • Busy role with competing demands from various stakeholders including factory, customers, commercial





    PERSON SPEC – in “decision analysis format” – higher weighting more important

    • 10 – Previous experience in a food factory with BRC Food, preferably multi customer. Responsible for running QMS / audits or as a minimum had more than passing involvement
    • 10 – Able to cope with competing demands from various stakeholders and changing priorities
    • 9 – Proven experience in implementing and driving BRC & retailer standards
    • 9 – Experience of managing HACCP, TACCP, internal audits etc
