We’re a buccaneering, privately owned, family business with over 30 years’ experience, and we’re based in Whitby – a real place with a rich history as a fishing port. We also have a processing site in Kilkeel in Northern Ireland. We employ over 350 people across these two sites and produce around 8000 tonnes of seafood.

As a company we are obsessed with top-notch seafood and are the market leaders in quality. We are the beacon brand for scampi and are the UK’s largest buyer and processor of scampi. Simply put we sell more scampi than anyone else anywhere else and we are proud to sell our scampi under the Whitby brand.

We are brand builders, with a strong character, provenance and market leading quality. Since we started the business in 1985 we’ve become the no.1 brand in food service and have our Whitby branded retail range in all the major retailers. We sell 60% of our products to the restaurant trade and 40% to retailers.

We have won quite a few Great taste awards for our products and our flagship product Whitby Scampi is a famous dish in pubs and restaurants and family dining tables throughout the land.

Many of the 350 people working across our two sites have worked for us for many years. Some of our employees are entire families that have worked for us helping building the business day in day out.   • Process / Specification Technologist

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Undertake trials in-line with Whitby Seafoods and Customer requirements and as instructed by Line Manager.
    • Completion of finished product specifications ensuring that they comply with all quality, legal and customer standards.
    • Review of finished product artworks to ensure they meet legal requirements.
      Document all data from trials inc. shelf-life, organs etc, comprehensively and legibly for future review in order to establish process capabilities and support due diligence.
    • Co-ordinate project critical paths including launch tracker, new line forms and meetings to ensure projects remain on track including escalation in the event of delivery being at risk.
    • Working with NPD, Technical and Production establish appropriate quality attributes for raw material, work in progress material and finished product taking into account operational capabilities.
    • Customer panels including finished product tasting.

    Person Specification

    • Strong personal organisation to make commitments happen
    • Experience in product spec writing for all the major systems, including Aldi, Asda, Brakes, Bidfood, COOP, Morrisons, Lidl, and Tesco
    • Demonstrating energy, drive, passion, and commitment to achieve results
    • Takes a “no-nonsense” approach – ‘what can we do to sort this out?’
    • Listens and seeks to understand and satisfy the customer’s changing needs
    • Good written and verbal presentation and communication – good listener – with analytical and reasoned persuasion
    • Good Excel and Word skills with experience in statistical process control methods.
    • Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous.

  • National Account Manager – Pub Groups and Foodservice Wholesale

    We have enviable distribution of our products throughout the UK via the wholesale channel, these include national operators such as Brakes and Bidvest and regional wholesale businesses. In addition to this Whitby Scampi can be enjoyed in a large number of the major pub and restaurant operators.

    As a result, we are looking for a National Account Manager with the ideal candidate having experience of managing the pub and restaurant groups as well as Foodservice wholesalers.

    Role Profile:

    • Manage and build strong relationships with your accounts.
    • Be the key point of contact for a portfolio of major pub groups and wholesale customers.
    • Deliver profitable sales growth within your account base
    • Look for key growth opportunities within your accounts in line with the business strategy.
    • Ability to understand and negotiate complex terms.
    • Experience of proactively managing a price negotiation.
    • Willingness to work with other teams to project manage product launches.
    • Be able to read and understand customer data and market insight.
    • Work together with internal and external Marketing teams on new opportunities, to maximise new and existing accounts growing brand awareness.
    • Organise and deliver high quality product presentations to respective buyers, development teams and sales teams within your account base
      Organise and manage activity within your account portfolio
      Manage day to day admin from your account portfolio.
    • Desired Background:

      • Graduate Calibre with a great work ethic and real drive and ambition.
      • Ability to build external relationships within the foodservice sector buying teams to develop a successful long-term relationship.
      • Highly numerical and PC proficient.
      • Be able to represent Whitby Seafoods to the high standards expected, both internally and externally, whether that be Trade Shows, Client Meetings, colleagues or 3rd parties.

      The Detail:
      The role will require a combination of working from home and working at Whitby Seafoods Head Office, but travel will be required to meet with customers and product presentations.
      The role will require a flexible approach to work hours and staying away from home during the week.
      Reporting in to Head of Commercial.
      The role will include company car or car allowance.
